Citizen Outreach Leads "Can Dan" Effort to
Fire Dan Klaich as NSHE Chancellor
(Las Vegas, NV) - Citizen Outreach today emailed a letter to the thirteen members of the Nevada System of Higher Education's (NSHE) Board of Regents, signed by a coalition of conservative leaders, calling on the Board to terminate the employment of Chancellor Dan Klaich.
The letter was sparked by comments attributed to Klaich in a Reno Gazette-Journal story last week in which the chancellor clearly insinuated that UNR President Milt Glick's death on August 16, 2011, was possibly caused by Gov. Brian Sandoval's proposed budget cuts to the higher education system. The letter reads, in part:
"Dan Klaich's hyperbole and false accusations are unacceptably offensive and do more to erode support for the higher education system than generate support for it. Many Nevadans, struggling to keep their own family's head above water, are sick and tired of being told we don't give a damn about education!
"Enough is enough.
"It's time for NSHE to chart a different course. It's time for NSHE to stop the lies. It's time for NSHE to stop the personal insults. It's time for NSHE to accept reality and work within budget constraints. It's time for NSHE officials to stop stamping their feet and holding their collective breaths until their faces turn blue.
"It's time for change. Real change. It's time to put someone in charge who will shine, not whine. Who will see the glass as half full, not half empty. Who will work with the governor rather than against him. Who respects and appreciates taxpayers, not despises them. Who will be honest with the public, not deceive them.
"Who will put an end to the hyperbole.
"In short, it's time to 'can Dan.' As such, we the undersigned urge the Board of Regents to fire Dan Klaich and replace him with someone who can regain the support and trust of the governor, the Legislature and Nevada's taxpayers and citizens."
