JOIN IN AND DEMAND THAT THE GOP 'STAND TOUGH'

Dear Conservatives:

Iowa Republican Senator Chuck Grassley has a "gun control lite" bill he's selling to weak-kneed Senators on Capitol Hill . . . 

. . . and what's even worse, Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell says, "it might be something I can support."

You would think ALL Republicans are lining up behind Senators Rand Paul, Ted Cruz and Mike Lee to support the filibuster of Harry Reid's gun control bill -- S. 649. 

But that’s just not happening.

And it appears Grassley and McConnell's "gun control lite" bill could destroy all efforts to stop Obama's war on your gun rights when the Senate returns to Washingtonon April 8.

It’s unclear exactly what Grassley's gun control bill contains, but it’s clear he’s more than willing to cut a “deal,” especially after he was the lone Republican vote with the gun-grabbers in a recent Senate Judiciary Committee hearing.

Gay Marriage, Pot and Vouchers…Oh, My!

The 2013 Nevada legislative session is now half over – yeah!
 
As we plod toward sine die, there are three issues that deserve more than lip service but which, unfortunately, are unlikely to go anywhere: repealing the state’s gay marriage ban, ending the war on potheads and greatly expanding school choice through vouchers.
 
Gay marriage: This should serve as a cautionary tale to all Americans.  The problem here isn’t that we might let gays into the institution of marriage; it’s that we let government into it in the first place.  At that point, the end of marriage as it’s been known for two thousand years became inevitable.
 
Religious considerations aside, you simply cannot have the government bequeath special benefits to married couples while denying those benefits to gays.  This isn’t about the Bible; it’s about the Constitution.  And whether Nevada’s ban on gay marriage is repealed via a new vote of the people or struck down by the courts, it’s a goner.
 
Marijuana: Nevada legislators should follow a handful of other states and just get this over with.

Now that’s why if Congress passes a law and we the people think it’s wrong, we can throw them out of Congress and change the law. We’re the sovereign; we get the final word on whether the law’s any good or not. But if you put it over to the judges, they pass a ruling and say well, we determine this law is not a good law, what recourse is there from that? You wait another 70 years until you get a new court and get a different decision? No. At that point, the judiciary has become your sovereign. That’s exactly what John Marshall pointed out. Thomas Jefferson agreed emphatically.

Jefferson said, “The opinion which gives to the judges the right to decide what laws are constitutional and what not would make the judiciary a despotic branch.” He said the Constitution on this hypothesis is a mere thing of wax in the hands of the judiciary, which they may twist and shape into any form they please. He said guys, if you’re going to say that the judges have the right to decide what’s constitutional and what’s not, not only does that make the judiciary a despotic branch, it makes the Constitution like something of wax that they can twist and shape into any form they please.

When the big cheese is bailing, you know things are about to get rough, and when the banksters themselves are saying the banksters should be arrested, you know things have been bad for quite some time. There are people who still don’t understand the depth of the corruption, though, or they would have closed their accounts long ago, as I did.

But—he must be an okay guy because he’s been doing yoga and researching Buddhism!—as if that makes any difference. He’s calling for a criminal investigation? Isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black? This is probably a farce article, or wishful thinking. There’s no record of a “Financial News” publication.

Yep, as we have LONG been saying...AND ALL YOU have to do is quo warranto Mr. Obama for HIS OWN (reportedly sealed and vaulted at $5million taxpayer expense), valid, rightly-certified as such "Original Hawaiian Birth Certificate" as his proof of natural born citizen POTUS eligible authority to do, mandate, sign anything upon, to, for or in the name of American Citizens. 

  And while you're at it, demand of all congresscritters (especially your own) their perceived definition of "natural born citizen". Thank you"

Morning Briefing

For Good Friday, March 29 2013

Good Friday to you.

I used to not send a Morning Briefing on Good Friday.  But then people would start calling me early to say it hadn't come and ask why.  I take Good Friday as a holiday until the sun sets.  It marks the three most important days in the history of Mankind.  From art to geography, the world has never been the same because of what happened 1,980 years ago this weekend.

After years of people pestering me, I finally decided I would send out the Morning Briefing on Good Friday, but I would do it differently.  One post would be a special one reflecting on the day and the other would be scripture.  Believe it or not, I've been on vacation this whole week in Hilton Head, SC.  That hasn't stopped me from spending five days writing and rewriting the top story at RedState for this morning.  Please do read the whole thing and my thanks to those who helped me make sense of otherwise rambling thoughts.

I need to ask a particular favor today as well.  Please click here and read Dan McLaughlin's post.  If you only read one thing on marriage, this should be it.  Please read it.

DOGGONE IT

Why can’t any of my dogs just die peacefully in their sleep?

Late last night our 16-year-old “Heinz 57” suffered a seizure and we knew we had to put her down.  As Gia drove us to the Emergency Animal Hospital, all I could do was cradle Rio in my arms and let her hang her head out the back window one last time.

This is the fourth family dog my wife and I have had to pro-actively put down in the last dozen or so years.  That the dogs go peacefully and humanely to heaven doesn’t make making the decision any easier.  You always think, “Let’s wait another day or so to see if she gets better.”  It’s pure agony.

And our tradition of stopping off afterward for a shot and a beer to toast the life of our beloved pet ain’t much consolation.  It still sucks. 

Rest in peace, Rio.
