Marketplace Fleecing Act:
Republicans Preparing to Tax iTunes Downloads

Congressional Republicans led by Senator Mike Enzi of Wyoming and Democratic Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois, are about to raise Americans’ taxes and set in place the foundation for states to be able to tax downloads from the internet, including from places like iTunes. Senators Durbin and Enzi are inserting an internet tax as an amendment to the Senate budget bill.

The tax sounds innocuous enough. The tax is hiding under legislation called the Marketplace Fairness Act. The Act purportedly just harmonizes state laws so internet sales are also taxed. After all, it is not fair that Amazon does not charge all its customers sales taxes. It puts them at a competitive advantage over mom and pop shops. Sounds good until you realize what’s actually going on with this latest scheme to peddle “fairness.”

One day I will have a scorecard for conservatives. And those Republicans who vote for the Marketplace Fairness Act in any form will be blackballed from that scorecard. Until then, I hope groups like Club for Growth and Heritage Action will score against it. It is a damnable piece of legislation whose backers are a who’s who of major corporations.

By the end of the day, all bills (except those sponsored by a committee) had to be introduced on the floor to proceed through the legislative process. In our limited 120 days, it's important to keep moving forward! As more and more information comes before us in Carson City, I feel like so many of our bills and presentations by departments present a problem and a new tax to fix the problem. When I ran for this office, I made a promise to you, the taxpayers in Assembly District 4, that I would be your voice and ask hard questions about how our tax dollars are being spent. You told me that we need to do more with less and that our representatives in Carson City need to get creative.

It isn't just the people who are concerned about the increasing militarization of the Department of Homeland Security: lawmakers are concerned too.

Speaking at a Tea Party Rally in Whippany, New Jersey, Representative Leonard Lance said he is "concerned” about the DHS' stockpiling of ammo and heavily-armored vehicles for domestic use.

The New Jersey Rep. state he "would like a full explanation” from DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano. He said, "Congress has a responsibility to ask Secretary Napolitano as to exactly why these purchases have occurred."

Rep. Lance concluded his statement on the DHS, saying: "I think we need to make sure we continue to live in a country based on freedom - a country based on individual rights - and I hope that we in Congress get the answers to these questions."

The segment on immigration is from minute 18;20 to 27:16. It sounds good. Everything politicians say sounds good. Here is what is terribly wrong:

Rand says that in his immigration reform plan, illegal aliens will be given work visas right away and can also apply for citizenship.

He says it would be 'tough' and would depend on the Border Patrol claiming the border is secure and on a report being filed, after the first year and after each subsequent year, by an investigator general, another government employee in Obama's den of thieves.

Obama will fill the border patrol with O-bots and will have a far leftwinger at the helm of it. They definitely will claim, along with Janet Napolitano, that the border is 'safe' even though it is a porous sieve, and the investigator they name will certify that, or else--despite the fact that Rand says 'these investigators are fairly independant'. Under Obama, it can be assumed that the border will not be safe, ever. And if Rand's plan is passed, that gives Obama 3 whole years to figure out how to lie to the people and convince most suckers that the border is safe.
