One can hardly conceive of the enormous grief held quietly within
General Kelly as he spoke.
On Nov 13, 2010, Lt General John Kelly , USMC, gave a speech to the
Semper Fi Society of St. Louis , MO. This was four days after his son,
Lt Robert Kelly , USMC, was killed by an IED while on his 3rd Combat
tour. During his speech, General Kelly spoke about the dedication
and valor of our young men and women who step forward each and
every day to protect us.
During the speech, he never mentioned the loss of his own son. He
closed the speech with the moving account of the last six seconds in
the lives of two young Marines who died with rifles blazing to protect
their brother Marines.

Now, in the wake of the banking and economic crisis, the libs are saying the "free market isn't working." That means they think the government should be controlling the banks and maybe other businesses.
The problem is: government and banks were behaving like criminals and their accomplices in this banking crisis.
So the "progressives" want the corrupt government to regulate the corrupt bankers?
New regs may or may not be appropriate (for ex, we might require banks to stop securitizing mortgages. People would feel safer if that happened). But the bankers who defrauded their clients (the buyers of the tainted derivatives containing smelly mortgages) were pretty sure they could get away with this because government was in their pocket.
The public is changing its attitude toward these bankers and may no longer elect politicians who give them a pass.
At any rate, the author of this article thinks some cuffs may be applied once the investigations are completed.
That's good news (though a bit late) for America.

MD jurisdiction will automate immigration checks
Washington County, MD, will finally be joining 21 other jurisdictions in Maryland and 1,188 jurisdictions in 41 states nationwide using the automatic immigration status checks on fingerprints when an individual enters a detention center. Previously, the check was performed manually. If someone is on the list as an illegal immigrant, authorities then contact ICE for a hearing before a federal magistrate after completing any criminal sentences.
The fingerprint checks are part of the Secure Communities program and will be checked against the Department of Homeland Security’s Automated Biometric Identification System, which includes a watch list of criminals, immigration violators, and known or suspected terrorists. However, an individual’s fingerprints will only be in the system if they have had previous encounters with ICE or other law enforcement agencies – such as those who have been removed from the country in the past and re-entered the country. The removal of criminal aliens is prioritized by the seriousness of the crime committed.

Tea Partiers stormed Washington DC on Monday to demand reductions in federal spending as the price for raising the federal debt ceiling. The conventional wisdom in Washington is that major spending reductions will have to wait until after the 2012 election, when the Democratic and Republican parties can lay out their competing visions. Don't be bamboozled. The 2010 election, only seven months ago, was a repudiation of Congress's spendaholic ways.
Shockingly, the federal government borrows roughly 40 cents of every dollar it spends. Federal borrowing will hit the current $14.3 trillion debt ceiling on May 16th, forcing Congress to vote on raising it again...

The Militant Homosexual Lobby is on the warpath in reaction to pro-family legislation being proposed by the Tennessee senate (SB49).
If passed, SB49 would require Tennessee public schools to only include teaching sexuality in terms of human reproduction, which naturally would exclude the teaching of homosexuality.
But according to Militant Homosexuals, SB49 is “Hate Legislation.”
The bill’s sponsor, Senator Stacey Campfield, points out that the bill is actually neutral in that it would require teachers to speak neither favorably nor disfavorably about homosexuality.

We almost stopped this bill in the Assembly swaying 3 Democrats, but it made it through on a procedural maneuver. This devastating bill is being heard tomorrow in the Senate Judiciary and will punish small businesses across the state.

DEREGULATING THE WRECKED CAR BUSINESS
I am, without doubt, a veritable hawk on the tax hike issue. Not because no-new-taxes is a governing philosophy or political ideology, but because it’s a means to an end – that end being strictly limited government, which is only possible if you choke off the government’s money supply.
Indeed, there is once again a disturbing propensity in this current legislative session – by both Democrats and Republicans alike – to pursue licensing and regulating everything under the sun, almost always with a new Government Regulation Tax (GRT) included which they, 1984-like, always call a “fee.”
There’ve been efforts this year to license and regulate music therapists, charitable grant writers, asset managers, electronic insurance salesmen, chiropractic assistants, dieticians and even hair braiders. In addition, the Democrats’ new “services” tax would require teenagers who provide babysitting and lawn mowing services to register with the government and pay a fee for the privilege.

Given the Great Recession pummeling Nevada, is the Clark County school board being fiscally prudent?
Last November, the Clark County School District announced that "Debt service costs are projected to exceed underlying revenues by $138 million in FY 2011." Despite that projected revenue shortfall, however, the Clark County school board has twice revised its capital improvement plan to start new projects and spend some of the $106 million it found in reserves — $36 million it "found in the couch" and $70 million it had banked in a "savings account."In December, the school board and its appointed Bond Oversight Committee met to decide what to do with $36 million left over in the district's new-construction contingencies fund from the 1998 bond.
Staff suggested taking $31.5 million of the $36 million to finance new buildings for the Southeast Career and Technical Academy.
