SOS TO NEFF: BLOW IT OUT YOUR PIE HOLE!

As you may recall, accuracy-challenged liberal activist Erin Neff filed a frivolous complaint with the Secretary of State claiming that Assemblyman Ed Goedhart (R-Amargosa Valley) had violated Nevada’s campaign laws by allowing a worker who had been fired by the Legislative Counsel Bureau (LCB) to continue working in his office as a volunteer after Citizen Outreach retained her as a part-time legislative consultant.

Assemblyman Goedhart responded to the complaint on April 21, 2011 and the Secretary of State responded to his response today, essentially telling Neff to pound sand.  Click here to read Goedhart’s response, as well as the Secretary of State’s ruling

Part of the success that the Federal Reserve has achieved with boosting up large banks stems from its secretive ability to forge shadow bailouts of residential and commercial real estate loans.  The more secretive of the previous two comes from the commercial real estate (CRE) industry.  During the height of the housing mania in the United States CRE values were estimated to be worth $6.5 trillion.  A hefty sum no doubt and with $3.5 trillion in loans securing these properties, a significant cushion of equity was in place.  Yet with the crash in all real estate values, banks were left holding a smoldering portfolio of empty shopping malls, luxury hotels, and in some cases fast food outlets.  Today CRE values are estimated to be at $3 to $3.5 trillion putting many loans in a negative equity position reminiscent of many individual homeowners.  This issue of bailing out CRE was never discussed openly with the American people because it would have never carried any political muster.  So what the Federal Reserve accomplished was to create a system where banks were able to exchange toxic loans in place of U.S. Treasuries without taking up an open dialogue with the public.  In other words a clandestine bailout.

Lobbying firm of GOP foreign policy guru Randy Scheunemann parts ways with Sarah Palin

The big Sarah Palin news today is that she has lost her longtime foreign policy adviser, Randy Scheunemann.
Scheunemann is a well-known neoconservative who worked for Jesse Helms and was intimately involved in the push for the Iraq war. He later became an aide to John McCain on the 2008 presidential campaign, where he met and linked up with Palin. He's been associated with her ever since.
The question is: Why did they Scheunemann, who runs the lobbying firm Orion Strategies, leave Palin now?

House passes healthcare de-funding bill

The House voted Tuesday to eliminate federal grant money intended to help states establish their own insurance exchanges. The measure passed 238-183 after Republicans dismissed complaints that the bill would tie states' hands and shift power to the federal government.

Rep. Frank Pallone (D-N.J.) said de-funding the exchange grants would reduce states' ability to create exchanges tailored to their own needs. The federal government can run a fallback exchange in any state that does not establish its own.

ALABAMA JOINS ARIZONA COMBATTING ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION

AL Senate Passes AZ-Style Immigration Bill

The Alabama Senate has passed an Arizona-style immigration bill in an attempt to lower Alabama’s 9.2 percent unemployment rate.  The bill passed the Senate 26-6 and now must be reconciled with the House version that passed in early April.

The Senate bill allows police to detain people suspected of being undocumented immigrants and established new penalties for business that knowingly hire illegal workers.  It requires police to verify a person’s immigration status if the person is unable to produce appropriate documentation. It does not allow motorists to be stopped at random or racially profiled despite some of the critics attacks on this piece of legislation.

The bill also includes portions of immigration laws passed by Arizona, Oklahoma, and Missouri, although it is not as strict as anti-Amnesty advocates would like.  One sticking point is that the Senate bill only requires E-Verify for businesses doing work for the state government or receiving state grants. However, it is designed to withstand court tests and every lawsuit thrown at it.

TMLC to Defend Teacher’s Patriotic “God Banners” Thursday Morning in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals
Wednesday, May 4, 2011
Thomas More Law Center (TMLC) Senior Trial Counsel Robert Muise will defend the right of public high school teacher Brad Johnson to display patriotic banners in his classroom before a panel of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. PST in Pasadena, California. The Poway Unified School District in California ordered Johnson to take down his banners that contained historical slogans such as “In God We Trust, ” “One Nation under God, ” as well as the preamble to the Constitution, because “they may offend a Muslim student.”
Johnson had been displaying the banners for twenty-five years.  He was ordered to remove them in 2007.  Because of the national significance of this case, C-SPAN will be videotaping the oral arguments, which will be broadcasted at a later date.
